Written by Poppy Hankin when she was just 16, Girl Ray’s brand new song ‘The Way We Came Back’s is a West Coast-inspired track that the band describe as a ‘plump cow that needed to be milked’. The fact that the video takes place during a blizzard makes it even more charming.
Within seconds of hearing the opening line ‘I saw your text’ you can see why the trio were so desperate to release this song. It has elements of Slow Club in the melodies but mixes this up with Kings of Convenience-style subtlety and a charismatic resonance.
