Get This Room: Playful Minimalism

By Dwell @dwell
Texas-based designer Barbara Hill is a pro at striking the right note between modern and playful, we took apart an informal dining room she designed in Atlanta, Georgia, to help readers recreate the look at home. Slideshow Georgia Peach dining room.

The owners of the home, who had recently relocated from Houston to Atlanta, brought in interior designer Barbara Hill for her spare aesthetic that doesn’t skimp on fun. Although the Mediterranean-style home was far from modern, “Stripping down the ornamentation really sets those features off,” Hill says. “Most traditional houses with good bones can do the same.”

To highlight the playful pieces she used in the informal dining room, as well as the home’s structure, Hill coated the plaster walls in Benjamin Moore’s Decorators White and whitewashed the red oak floors. Click through the slideshow to see what furniture she picked to achieve this look.
