German Riesling and Blue Cheese

By Brian @WineInMyGlass

Right now, I’m enjoying some Maytag Blue Cheese with a 2002 Reinhold Haart Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Spätlese wine. I’m just enjoying it, and not trying to review it. It’s a wonderful combination. The sharp flavors of the blue cheese balance nicely with the sweetness of the Riesling.

This is a fairly typical German Riesling Spätlese. The sweetness is balanced well by the acidity. If you’ve never tried an older German Riesling, I highly recommend it. I can often find older German Rieslings at a local wine shop in the bargain basket, so shop around. I also recommend Maytag Blue cheese if you’re a fan of blue cheese. This cheese is made in Iowa by the same family that started the Maytag appliance company.

Cheers!
