Gerhard Richter’s Betty at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne. I first saw a comprehensive Richter exhibit at MOMA in NYC back in 2002 or 2003. The chasm that runs between his abstract and realist work is astounding. His portraits that look like photographs, and his abstracts that look like squeegee paint on canvas, until you get up close and see the layer upon layer of thought.
