Georgia Man Charged with Murder
Detray Shivers
The New York Daily News
The tragic shooting death of a 2-year-old Georgia boy, once thought accidental, was actually a murder, police said.
Detray Shiver, 25, had been charged with shooting and killed his nephew, little Kamarri Lewis, on Monday morning in Stone Mountain, Ga. His wife, Alexia Thomas, 23, is accused of dumping the handgun into a sewer drain outside the Dekalb County home.
The aunt and uncle were already jailed on neglect charges after they first told police the child found the pistol and shot himself around 10 a.m. Monday. The couple was meant to be watching the boy while his mother was at work, but Shiver claimed he wasn’t home at the time of the shooting, while Thomas told cops she was asleep.
But an autopsy found the boy could not have shot himself and was ruled a homicide.

The couple is also each charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct and felony possession of cocaine with intent to distribute after cops found drugs at the Third Street home.
