The General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) is a government agency in Saudi Arabia responsible for providing social insurance services to Saudi Arabian citizens and residents. It was established in 1974 and is governed by the Social Insurance Law.
The main purpose of GOSI is to provide social protection to Saudi Arabian workers and their families against the risks of injury, disability, illness, death, and old age. GOSI operates a number of social insurance programs, including:
- The Old-Age and Disability Insurance Program: This program provides pensions to eligible Saudi Arabian citizens and residents who have reached retirement age or have become disabled and unable to work.
- The Survivors and Dependents Program: This program provides benefits to the family members of a deceased worker, including a surviving spouse, children, and dependent parents.
- The Work Injury Program: This program provides compensation to workers who are injured on the job or suffer from occupational diseases.
- The Unemployment Insurance Program: This program provides temporary financial support to Saudi Arabian citizens who are unemployed and looking for work.
GOSI is funded through contributions from employers and employees, as well as investment income. Employers are required by law to contribute a certain percentage of their employees’ salaries to GOSI, while employees also make contributions based on their salary.
GOSI has regional offices throughout Saudi Arabia, as well as an online portal where individuals can access their social insurance accounts, apply for benefits, and view their contribution history.
