Everything seemed to be over for Gareth Bale to continue his career on the Asian continent. Considered undesirable by the club in the Spanish capital, like Zinedine Zidane’s statements at a press conference, the 30-year-old Welshman was to join Jiangsu Suning. The Spanish media were all unanimous on this subject. In China, he was even going to receive a much better salary than in Real Madrid, where he was already the highest paid player in the squad with a net annual income of €17 million.

But now the transfer from Basel to China would have fallen through. This is what the serious English media BBC Sport reports this Sunday afternoon. Real Madrid would have effectively cancelled the departure of its number 11, and the Welshman should therefore remain on the side of the Spanish capital. This may come as a surprise, but British television is very positive.

So it remains to be seen whether it was Zinedine Zidane who finally wanted Tottenham’s former boss to stay, whether it was a decision made by Florentino Pérez or whether the two men simply thought it was the best solution to take. We must also ask ourselves whether this decision is sporting, especially after Asensio’s injury, or whether it is purely financial. The new risk in any case of being welcomed in a funny way in Spain….
