Garden space trends to look out for in 2019

This year is now in full swing. Garden trends in 2018 included the rise of the ecological gardens, asymmetrical scheme and wood-effect tiles, but what exactly does this year have in store? Here, we touch upon seven potential trends that will sweep the nation before the year is out.

The concept of home entertaining is popular in Britain. While you might think of a fire pit as being an expensive addition to your space, think again. You can purchase mini pits for as little as £25 and the quirky idea can brighten up any area in which you entertain your guests. The heat that it provides will allow the party gathering to continue well into the night, meaning the cold evenings won't even be able to put a dampener on your spirits.

Smart lighting

According to the BBC's landscape designers, the Rich brothers, one of the top trends for this year will be the re-emergence of smart lighting. Their suggestion is that you position lights up against trees so that it can create an uplight effect and draw your attention to a specific area of the garden.

Hot tubs

In recent years, inflatable hot tubs that went on sale in Aldi have excited shoppers. However, this year, you can expect a more permanent addition to gardens. With decking boards providing the perfect platform for this little piece of luxury, sales are expected to continue to soar over the next 12 months.

Grow your own

In Britain, we like the idea of growing our own produce. The staple cabbage and tomatoes are still set to be homegrown this year, but it's said that before long we will also be growing our own tea plants and herbs - great for our morning cuppa or gin and tonic!

While this may seem an odd idea, wallpapering your outdoor space is believed to be a new trend that can help brighten up your area. You can stay on trend and match your paper with your surroundings, or you can mimic your personality and dazzle your guests with outlandish prints.

Handmade décor

Making your garden your own unique space is important to some of us. As shabby chic continues to be all the rage, creating items in this style for our garden is set to take off this year. Like wallpapering, creating your own decorations will add your own personal stamp on your space and, with up-cycling becoming more popular in the home in recent years, it's now time for the garden space to get a makeover.

Adult treehouses

If space allows, you may find yourself tempted to include an adult treehouse in your garden. We've all heard of the 'man cave' and 'she shed', but 2019 is set to be the year of the adult treehouse. We love a getaway, and if you have an area that allows it, why not create a rustic-looking treehouse to escape to?

This year is set to have a lot of new trends, with the above seven just several to keep an eye out for. Which are you going to be getting involved with?!
