The Colombo High Court yesterday temporarily lifted the travel ban imposed against former Minister Udaya Gammanpila for allegedly misappropriating Rs.20 million when selling the shares of Digital Nominees using a forged Power of Attorney to a businessman.

The order was given when the case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja.

Counsel who appeared for MP Gammanpila informed court that his client expects to go abroad and he sought from the court to lift the travel ban imposed against his client from November 23 to November 29. the High Court Judge ordered the lifting of the travel ban imposed on the accused Gammanpila during the period and also ordered the temporary release of his passport which was in the custody of court. The case will be taken up again on December 15.

The Attorney General has filed a case against Minister Udaya Gammanpila during the previous government alleging that he had sold a forged power of attorney and misappropriated Rs.20 million worth of shares in a company called “Digital Nominees” owned by an Australian businessman named Brian Shaddick.
