Director Miguel Sapochnik confided that episode 3 of season 8 of "Game of Thrones" could have contained an attack of 50 giant wolves against a zombie dragon but that he had to finally give up the scene.
Screenshot / HBO Game of Thrones was preparing a surprise for us that ultimately never saw the light of day! One of the directors of season 8 gave details of a scene imagined for episode 3. On the microphone of the podcast IndieWire Filmmaker Toolkit, Miguel Sapochnik thus confided:
There are a lot of things that people would have liked to see, like giant wolf attacks and that kind of crazy stuff. But at one point you think to yourself "50 giant wolves attacking an undead dragon doesn't make a good movie." These are things that we did not shoot but that were part of our thinking.
A sequence that would still have been impressive, and many fans will regret not having had the opportunity to discover it. It is not known if the most famous giant wolves still alive at this time (Nymeria and Phantom, the beasts of Arya and Jon Snow) could have led the assault. It's also more likely that Sapochnik is referring to giant wolves leading ordinary wolves, as so far the series has only shown six giant wolves, all attached to House Stark.
Sapochnik however does not hold any rigor to the two creators of the show, David Benioff and DB Weiss: "They were ruthless when we got to the point where they were saying 'no no, we want this or that' and at the same time, they had realizations that there were some doable things and some not.
Yes Game Of Thrones is well over, its spin-off House of the Dragon is in pre-production and should hit screens in 2022.
