1. Google will finally restore the service
Google had suffered major service disruptions overnight and well into the morning, with G Suite issues affecting Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Chat, and more.
Google has now announced through the G Suite Status Dashboard that the service interruptions for Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Meet and Google Voice have now been resolved.
- Google Search, Maps, YouTube, etc. were still working at the time, but a large number of people in many countries were affected.
- The no longer persistent problem was best described using the status update on the Google Cloud incident page, which included technical details:
- "I have an issue with Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) clusters where auto provisioning nodes hang while updating the node version. The automatic node upgrades have been temporarily disabled. "
- Which doesn't mean much to most people. Google usually provides a detailed autopsy report that should be published on the G Suite website in good time after an examination.
- One more thing: Strangely enough, there was also a major outage on August 19 last year. Probably coincidence.
