Rapper G Herbo has reached an agreement to plead guilty in Massachusetts to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and making a false statement to a federal official, as reported by the Chicago Tribune and The Republican. As part of the plea deal, two charges of aggravated identity theft against the rapper will be dismissed. The court is expecting G Herbo to enter his guilty plea later this month, and he could potentially face up to 20 years in prison.
Pitchfork has reached out to G Herbo’s attorney, James W. Lawson, for a comment on the plea agreement.
The federal grand jury indictment in 2020 charged G Herbo and five other men with participating in a defrauding scheme, where they were accused of using stolen payment and credit card information to make extravagant purchases, including private jet charters, exotic car rentals, and designer puppies.
Following the indictment becoming public, G Herbo’s management stated that the rapper maintains his innocence and is eager to establish it in court. He initially pleaded not guilty to the charges and even defended himself in the song “Statement.” However, a few months later, G Herbo faced additional charges of making a false statement to a federal official.
Throughout this period, G Herbo managed to release two albums, “25” and “Survivor’s Remorse.” However, his legal issues continued, as he was arrested earlier this month in Chicago for the unlawful use of a weapon after being pulled over by the police.
