It was in 2014 that LG unveiled their first curved smartphone. It was named G Flex. And now, as I informed in my post about LG’s annual Tech Show, its successor is here. LG’s latest curved smartphone sensation has been launched in India. And the good news is that it costs much less than its predecessor did when it was launched. Although, with the price tag of 55,000 INR, it’s still going to be beyond the budget reach of most.

Of course, it’s a premium device with premium looks and features. It has a smaller and more comfortable screen then G Flex and also a sleeker and lighter build. The first G Flex had a 6 inch screen which made it a Phablet device. The display of G Flex 2 is smaller and more convenient to use with one hand. Although, it is still larger than most other smartphones. This new curved smartphone felt delightful to hold. Surprisingly lightweight and definitely with a premium feel to it.

Let’s take a quick look at its important specifications and features.

SPECIFICATIONS:

One of the highlights of the specifications of G Flex 2 is that it has Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 810 processor with 2.0GHz 64-bit Octa-Core CPUs. As for display, it has 5.5 inch P-OLED full HD display. The smartphone is also equipped with 430 GPU for enhanced graphics performance and has an integrated X10 LTE modem with CAT 9 LTE for better connectivity. The performance and speed is supported by 2 GB RAM. That actually disappointed me a little. Many smartphones are now coming with 3GB RAM. So I would have loved to see that in a smartphone as exciting as G Flex 2.

G Flex 2 will be available in the versions of 16 GB and 32 GB internal storage. The storage can be expanded using a microSD card of upto 2TB. Yes, 2TB! When I read such figures, I always wonder how can anybody ever manage to need a storage capacity this extensive. But apparently, many do.

Well, moving on with the specification, G Flex 2 has the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS and is powered by 3,000mAh (embedded) battery. And of course, no smartphone now is complete without a good camera. Well, G Flex 2 is equipped with 13 MP Rear Camera and 2.1 MP Front Camera.

LG G Flex 2 features and specifications

FEATURES:

Just good specifications don’t make a smartphone a premium device. Many cheaper smartphones by lesser brands can also bundle up high specifications in a smartphone. What adds to the delight of a premium smartphone is its quality and the features that are built into it.

As far as my experience goes, when you use a premium smartphone, you keep on discovering new and well thought out features of the device through many days of use. Several minor but well-thought out settings, features and conveniences are bundled in a high-end smartphone to enhance the user experience. No review done after checking out a smartphone for a few minutes or days can ever fully reveal all its various features. Nor would I attempt to do so here. All I can give you is a brief about the important features of G Flex 2.

Curved Design: Well, the first thing that anyone would notice about G Flex 2 is that it’s curved. The curves don’t just make it look more interesting than other usual straight smartphones but also serve to enhance the call quality by bringing the microphone closer to the mouth. The curved screen also provides more immersive viewing experience by providing optimal viewing angles and minimizing glare and reflections.

Durability: G Flex 2 also has a self-healing back capable of taking care of minor nips and scratches in just few seconds. The curved design also enhances the durability of the device by reducing the concentrated shock in comparison to flat smartphones. The display is protected by LG Dura Guard which gives the front glass 20% more durability.

Camera Features: LG G Flex 2 brings to the users several interesting camera features. The device is equipped with Laser Auto Focus camera that was first introduced in the LG G3. This aides in capturing better shots even in low lights by measuring the distance by the subject and camera with a laser beam. The device also has LG’s OIS+ technology and dual LED Flash.

Gesture Shot: One important feature of the camera is the Gesture Shot which allows the users to click selfies using simple hand gestures. The device can recognize these gestures from the distance of 1.5 meters. That is sure going to interest the users who like clicking lots of selfies.

Gesture View: Another feature is the Gesture View which makes it easy for the users to check their photo immediately after clicking it using just gesture commands.

Glance View: The Glance View feature makes available information like recent messages, missed calls etc. even when the display is off. With just a downward swipe of the screen, the information becomes visible.

Fast Charge: The 3,000 mAh battery of G Flex 2 can charge up to 50% in just 40 minutes.

And of course, G Flex 2 has the popular features of LG smartphones like the Knock Code and the Rear Key design that add to the convenience of using the smart device. And it is fully compatible with LG Urbane – the smartwatch by LG.
