Fun Floral Napkin Rings

By Simon Crowther @prestigeflower

Whether you enjoy hosting dinner parties or you are planning on entertaining guests for special occasions like Christmas. Formal events call for formal décor. You will want to set places for everyone which includes glasses, plates, cutlery, and things like napkins. You should also think about decorations. Apart from placing a lovely centrepiece on the table, you can add colour and style by using the right napkin rings. You don't need to buy expensive napkin rings though. You can make them yourself!

Things you need: Instructions:
  • Twist the stems off the flowers to break them off as close to the flower without having it fall apart.

  • Cut off any extra plastic from the stems using a sharp pair of scissors. The base of each flower needs to be as flat as possible.

  • Use the hot glue gun to attach the flowers to the old napkin ring. Make sure that you hold the flower in place until the glue sets. This should not take longer than a few seconds.

  • Continue until you have attached all the flowers you like to the napkin ring.

  • Repeat this design with the rest of your napkin rings.

Helpful Tips:
  • You can use fresh flowers if you like but remember that they will not last too long. They will need to be made on the day of the event.

  • Artificial flowers are best if you want to use your floral napkin rings more than once.

  • Choose flowers that have a flat shape so that they are easy to secure to the napkin ring.

  • If the napkin ring is particularly old, you can paint it before decorating with flowers.

  • You can use a few large flowers or a lot of smaller flowers. You could even use a combination of the two if you prefer.

  • Remember to let the glue set every time you fix a flower in place or you could dislodge it while gluing the other flowers in place.

When you are hosting a formal event, you might like a black and white theme. If you would like to create this kind of theme, you could paint the napkin rings black and use white flowers. Just make sure that you paint them in advance so that the paint has enough time to dry completely before you continue with your decorating. You should also make sure that your centrepiece suits the same theme.
