Fun Autumn Flower Crafts

By Simon Crowther @prestigeflower

When the warm weather turns into shorter, cooler days and chilly nights, you may wonder how you can best spend your time. You might not be able to spend as much time outside. Which is why it's a good idea to consider as many fun crafts as possible. Most flowers are not in bloom during all three autumn months but floral crafts can help you brighten your day and your home when nature takes a bit of a break.

Apart from being fun, crafts are fantastic learning experiences and you don't have to worry about the weather. If it's too hot, too cold, windy, or raining, doing crafts indoors is a great way to pass the time in a wonderfully constructive way. It's great to spend time with your children and teach them some hands on skills while creating memories that will last a lifetime.

One fantastic craft to enjoy with your children involves creating your very own flower basket. You can buy a basket or you can make one yourself. It all depends on how far you want to take the DIY experience as well as how much time you have to enjoy this craft. If you have an old basket, you can also take some time to fix it up before using it. Painting, a stylish stain, or even some ribbon can completely change the way a basket looks. Once ready, you can add your floral foam and flowers. Depending on your preferences, you can use fresh or artificial flowers. Sometimes the latter is easier when you are enjoying this craft with your children. You don't have to take as much care as you do with fresh blooms.

You could also try your hand at making floral coasters. Different flowers and colours can be used for different seasons. So, every few months, you can use a different set every three months. Bright colours are great for summer, pastels suit spring, yellows, reds and orange are great for autumn, and you can enjoy a Christmas or white flower theme for winter. You need only place your flowers and/or leaves on some pieces of paper (white or colourful) and then laminate them. Place under a heavy weight to ensure that they are perfectly flat before cutting them out. If you like the result, you can make your own placemats too.

You can also use flowers around your home by decorating a votive cup with tissue paper and pressed flowers. All you will need is a few supplies, including decoupage solution, and you can enjoy the new addition to your home décor. While some votive candles require an actual flame, many have LED lights which makes them safer and longer lasting. If you have a regular votive candle, you can always place an LED light inside instead of buying a new LED votive candle.

With all of these fantastic autumn crafts, it's all the more reason to welcome these cooler months. You may enjoy the heat of summer, but autumn also offers amazing beauty that cannot be ignored.
