Frustrated Senator Drops F-bombs During Nationally Televised Virtual Hearing

For Delaware Senator Tom Carper, video conferencing turned into a nightmare while he was let out a couple of explosives and not realizing that his camera and microphone were turned on while in public US Postal Service Hearing on Friday.

Carper, a Democrat, appeared to be having technical difficulties and was caught swearing while questioning Postmaster General Louis DeJoy last changes in the postal serviceThis could affect the ability of up to 80 million people to vote by mail during the November presidential election. Apparently, Carper was accidentally put in line by Wisconsin's Senator Ron Johnson, chairman of the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, who skipped over to the next person with questions.

Carper mumbled three F-bombs, which caught the attention of Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma at the public meeting. "Mr. Chairman, I think Senator Carper is here, I think he's trying to be able to put everything in line," Lanford said.

Johnson chuckled and said, "OK, um, we don't want to be on TV again," which most likely alluded to Carper's unexpected outburst. Then Carper was allowed Ask Postmaster General DeJoy his questions.

In response to the incident, a Carper spokesman said in a statement: "Like most Americans in 2020, Senator Carper was disappointed with technical difficulties this morning, but that pales in comparison to his frustration with a postmaster general who runs the US Post undermines service during a national crisis. While the Senator may have been slightly embarrassed to swear in a public session, he used the incident to his advantage and later said in a tweet how passionate he was about the problems of the postal service.

Carper tweeted too later in response to his F bombing: "Those who know me know that there are few things that upset me more than protecting the postal service!"

Some people posted their reactions to the Senator's F bombing on social media. Some applauded him for being so excited about the subjects. And others related to the gaffe. "Everyone has been there, especially recently," wrote one. Another wrote, "The Golden Rule of Technique: If there's a microphone near you, always assume it's on."
