From Navigation to Total Car Security - The GPS Tracker Story

By Mountain Publishing @mountainpublish

It is astonishing to see the evolution of any technology over the past decade. Consider for example the cell phone, from trunk dialling to modern facetime when you look at the step-by-step evolution by adding small upgrades to the already existing systems. Here we discuss the silent evolution of one such technology called GPS navigation.

Started as a war time technology to geolocate the vehicle on any terrain, the GPS trackers are now the personal protection equipment. It is not the single technology that helped to achieve such transformation but a coordinated and careful integration of numerous technology inventions that acted as catalyst for the GPS navigation. Let’s look at the factors in detail

The Satellites

Just like vehicles on the road, space now has a good amount of traffic due the increased satellites from different countries. Some of the major players in the space industry have indigenously developed geo positioning systems for defence and public use. Previously it was a handful of satellites to do the geo location; now the entire earth has been under the supervision of satellites equipped with cutting edge technology.  It is the relative coordinates from the geopositioned satellites that help to intercept the correct location of any object on earth. To form a complete GPS network a constellation of approximately 24 satellites needed. The current GPS system has 32 satellite networks. The 8 satellites are deployed to handle emergency situations.

The Internet

The internet is the nucleus of all the advancements that we see today. It has also helped the GPS tracker industry by providing fast communication between the servers and end users. The feature like Live tracking always needs a reliable internet connection. Now that we step in to the 5G world the features and functionalities will be much more enhanced, and security will be much more efficient

Sensors

To detect and identify any object or even the sensors are the vital part. It is the sensors that helped to take the security equipment to the next level. Now there is so much more that can be done using the sensors. When integrated, the car GPS tracker can send vibrations alarms of above certain decibels.

Programmable microchips

Like any other computing devices, Tracker also comprises programmable microchips. This chip level programming helps to add or remove features without any hassle. Also, the trackers can communicate with other similar inbuilt car devices and send that information back to owner’s mobile dashboard. The power consumption in these chips is also to the minimum as it required low voltage DC input. There are so many advantages of having a microchip on GPS devices. Of Course, the size of the device was reduced to the minimum and increased in functionality and versatility. The fast processing of incoming data and accuracy in computing is also a key point of microchips. Moreover, the compatibility to external devices of similar architecture opens the room for advancement in future.

Conclusion

Micro computing and its application to various fields have opened a new era where different devices/technology work together on a single platform to achieve the desired output. One such device is the GPS tracker. From navigation and geo location, GPS receivers are evolved to provide much advanced functionalities by incorporating various technologies such as sensors and microchips. In the security segment it is evident that a GPS tracker always has its irreplaceable place.
