Hello everyone, I hope all is well with you. I’m back today after a week of work, running, and writing. It was a productive week, and I had a great weekend.

This weekend, I attended a friend’s artist reception. It was nice to get out with other creatives and chat. I ran into another friend who recently got married and because her life has changed we don’t see each other like we used to.

In fact, we had a bit of a falling out. She didn’t appreciate how much her new hubby enjoyed talking with me during an earlier get together. It made her feel insecure, and just like that I’m no longer at the top of her friend list.

It hurt that something so minor could create a rift, but there it was slapping me in the face. My other friends tried to compensate by spending time with me without disparaging her, and we’ve kind of limped along. When we ran into each other at this artist’s reception, it was like old times for a brief second, and we hugged and chatted. But inevitably the discomfort seeped into our interaction when we ran out of things to talk about.

It’s sad, but I remind myself that friendships are elastic. Sometimes they have to stretch wide, and it’s almost like they break, but then they snap back. Then again, sometimes they don’t. Some friendships aren’t meant to be forever.

So, I’m reflecting on this today because I’m finally coming to terms with the fact that people can leave our lives at any moment. It has taught me to be present and just enjoy the moment, and I’m more grateful for my other friends who have taken up the slack where that other friend used to be.

So, this is a shout out to the friends who have my back. I appreciate you! You all know who you are! 😉

How about you, have you had a situation like this before? How did you handle it? Leave a comment! I’d love to hear from you!
