Friday Is Rock'n'Roll #London Day: Happy Birthday #DavidBowie
Adam writes…
The 8th January is always a BIG day in the Rock'n'Roll calendar. On this day in 1935, Elvis Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi.
12 years later, the future Ziggy Stardust was born in the distinctly earth-bound surroundings of Brixton, South London as plain old David Jones.
In terms of the Rock'n'Roll London walk today, Elvis is always present, although he never once set foot in our city.
I have almost forgiven him.
Bowie, on the other hand, enlivens the proceedings at several points along the route being one of our beloved London Boys, to borrow from one of my all time favorite of his numbers…
Bowie's London period – broadly '64 to '73, from the 45 Liza Jane to the album Pin-Ups – remains the era of greatest personal fascination for me as a fan. The man himself seems to have little time for the 60's section of his career but I love the journey aspect – the evolution from R&B combo front-man through Anthony Newley-influenced solo star, to the cosmicly-permed Space Oddity "novelty act" and on to Ziggy – as well as a lot of the much neglected music.
Bowie is on my mind a lot at the moment, as he is the star of issue 3 of The Rock'n'Roll London Comic Book. Here are a few early sketches and drafts…

In the meantime you can buy issues one & two of the Rock'n'Roll London Comic Book – in both print & download – at The London Bookstore Online.
