Preparing for Shabbat
Shabbat (Sabbath) is a time of rest, from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday each week. For observant Jews, everything needed for Shabbat must be purchased before the sun sets on Friday afternoon. This man hurries through one of Jerusalem’s many tunnels with packages in hand.
If you visit Israel, remember that most shops and restaurants in the Jewish areas are closed on Saturdays.
