Friday Favorites #1: Week of 8/4

By Vanessa Kay @blushinggeek

I don’t have a solid schedule when do I publish an article here in Blushing Geek so that’s why I never participated in any weekly themed posts or link-up posts, but it is sure that I publish an article every Friday as that’s how I spend my Friday nights. Unless ofcourse if I am sick (or traveling), which just rarely happens.

There are times that I don’t have any review posts to be posted on Fridays, so I decided, why not participate to Friday Favorites hosted by Life in Leggings eh? I have different cravings every week that you might be interested to check out or to know so I guess it’ll be a great theme for me to try.

For my first ever #FFavorites, it’s related mostly about Japan. Haha, I’ve been craving about Japan for a month now and I can’t seem to stop, so please bear with me *wink.

I’ve been looking forward for this event since I’ve learn about it last week. I am yet to participate on its last day which is on Sunday as that’s the only free time I could get. Poor me 🙁

  • 7th International Red-White Singing Festival

Friday Favorites #1: Week of 8/4

I found out about this event just this week and it so happen to have the same venue as the Japanese Film Festival and it’s happening on Sunday as well. And I guess that’s the sign that I am destined to attend this said event, don’t you think? haha. Let’s just hope it’s not going to rain that day (currently doing sun dance).

Btw, the 7th International Red-White Singing Festival is a unique event based in Japan where Japanese performers sing Non-Japanese songs and Non-Japanese performers to sing Japanese songs. This year is particularly special as it is happening outside Japan for the first time – and it’s in the Philippines. Yahoo!

  • New Books and an unplanned trip to the bookshop

Last Sunday, I was supposed to buy a gift for my god-daughter but I ended up at the bookshop. I am struggling to budget for my expenses this month so I don’t have any intention of buying any books. Well, that was what in my mind that time, but when I saw these books from Sonia Francesca, I just can’t help it. Haha, so I bought four new books, 3 from Sonia Francesca and 1 from Harlan Coben. I haven’t read anything from the latter but I’ve been hearing a lot of positive reviews about his books, plus it’s on sale, so why not?

Here are the books that I’ve got:

  • Ore Monogatari (My Love Story)

After finishing all 70 episodes plus 2 movies of the Cardcaptor Sakura (Yep, I am watching animes that I have watched a few episodes when I was younger lately haha), I’ve been clueless on what to watch next. Then I remember Ore Monogatari!! (My Love Story!!) that I once encountered in Youtube so I decided to try. And my! I AM LOVING IT!!! It was sweet and very funny at the same time haha. You really should try it. It only has 24 episodes and I was able to finish it for 3 days even if I was busy with work and reading books haha.

Sypnosis:

With his muscular build and tall stature, Takeo Gouda is not exactly your average high school freshman. However, behind his intimidating appearance hides a heart of gold, and he is considered a hero by the boys for his courage and chivalry. Unfortunately, these traits do not help much with his love life. As if his looks are not enough to scare the opposite sex away, Takeo’s cool and handsome best friend and constant companion Makoto Sunakawa easily steals the hearts of the female students—including every girl Takeo has ever liked.

When Takeo gallantly saves cute and angelic Rinko Yamato from being molested, he falls in love with her instantly, but suspects that she might be interested in Sunakawa. With his own love for Yamato continuing to bloom, Takeo unselfishly decides to act as her cupid, even as he yearns for his own love story.

  • Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3

So far, I’ve read all 5 books in the series and the TV series didn’t follow closely with the book. Even if that’s the case, I still LOVE it. I’ve been following this series since 2015 and still loving it now. It gets better with every season and for this week’s episode, I was really so happy. SPOILER ALERT: I was so happy because finally, Bran is back in Winterfell!!!! I hope Jon will get back soon so they could talk and Bran could finally tell him who his real parents are. Isn’t that just exciting?!

  • Anime Songs

Friday Favorites #1: Week of 8/4

Since I’ve been actively watching anime this year, so getting addicted to anime songs can’t be helped haha. And I’ve been listening like every hour every day. I think my mom is annoyed by now haha.

You can check out my current favorites in my soundcloud account and maybe you’ll find some that you know or will enjoy.

  • One ok Rock

One ok Rock is a rock band in Japan that is now slowly being known worldwide. They have bunch of songs both written in Japanese and English and aside from releasing Japanese album, they are also releasing an English version of their album so fans all over the world can understand their song. Both versions are great, but if you ask me what’s my favorite, I’ll go for the Japanese version. Man! It was sick! Japanese rock song?! That’s really cool dude!

Aside from anime songs, you can find a bunch of One ok Rock songs in my playlist that I keep on playing every day. So you see why my mom is annoyed now? haha. You can check out some of my favorite songs from these guys on my soundcloud account as well.

  • Five Ways to Fall by K.A Tucker

Friday Favorites #1: Week of 8/4

Man! This one had me in a roller coaster ride because of the emotions it made me feel. This story didn’t just confused me, made me curious, made me mad, made me feel irritated, made me swoon, laugh my heart out but also made me cried my heart out. It was crazy but crazily good.

Sypnosis:

Purple-haired, sharp-tongued Reese MacKay knows all about making the wrong choice; she’s made plenty of them in her twenty-odd-years. So when her impulsive, short-lived marriage ends in heartbreak, she decides it’s time for a change. She moves to Miami with the intention of hitting reset on her irresponsible life, and she does quite well…aside from an epically humiliating one-night stand in Cancun with a hot blond bouncer named Ben. Thank God she can get on a plane and leave that mistake behind her.

Football scholarship and frat parties with hot chicks? Part of charmer Ben Morris’s plan. Blown knee that kills any hope of a professional football career? So not part of the plan. Luckily Ben has brains to go with his knockout looks and magnetism. After three long years of balancing law school with his job as a bouncer at Penny’s Palace, he’s ready to lead a more mature life—until his first day of work, when he finds himself in the office of that crazy, hot chick he met in Cancun. The one he hasn’t stopped thinking about.

If Ben truly were a smart guy, he’d stay clear of Reese. She’s the boss’s stepdaughter and it’s been made very clear that office romances are grounds for dismissal. Plus, rumor has it she’s trouble. The only problem is, he likes trouble, especially when it’s so good-looking…

  • Rurouni Kenshin (Wandering Samurai)

I’ve been meaning to watch Rurouni Kenshin for a long time now. I watched some few episodes when I was younger and all I could remember is how I was crushing Battosai (Kenshin Himura) haha. And when I watched the first episode, my! It was really really good considering it’s the first one in the series. It doesn’t just contains action-packed scenes but it was so funny. Haha, Kenshin’s facial expressions was so funny lol.

But whenever he channels his past life being Battosai, he was hot AF!

Rurouni Kenshin is indeed the best samurai anime ever.
