Continue with The Poisoned Martini’s floral-themed drinks with this Friday cocktail, the Peach Blossom.

There are varying recipes with the name Peach Blossom.  Some recent recipes opt for orange juice with peach schnapps.  Others shake it up with vodka and/or ginger ale.  The recipe below dates back as far as the early 1960s and appears in the 1964 edition of Old Mr. Boston De Luxe Official Bartender’s Guide.

However, I did vary the recipe slightly.  The original calls for “1/2 peach”, and I’ve no idea what that means exactly.  Is it 1/2 peach’s juice?  The actual half of a peach?  Clarity, please!  I went with the assumption it meant juice.

What you’ll need:  Gin, Peach Juice, Lemon Juice, Sugar, and Carbonated Water

In a shaker over cracked ice, pour in 2 ounces of gin and 2 1/2 ounces of peach juice.  Add in a teaspoon of lemon juice and 1/2 teaspoon of powdered sugar.  Shake vigorously and then strain into a highball glass.  Fill the glass with carbonated water as needed.  Stir and then serve.

How I like it:  As I mentioned before, I skip the carbonated water (or ginger ale which is often used instead).  It’s not really necessary.  For a little more peach flavor I do opt for a teaspoon of peach schnapps in place of the lemon juice, but I’ll still add a dash or two of lemon juice.  And keep in mind, you can use granulated sugar but it doesn’t dissolve as easily.  The sugar may not be necessary if you aren’t using fresh juice as many store brought juices already contain plenty of sugar.  Also, with today’s wide array of available fruit juices, consider using a peach mango blend for a bit of flair.

Be a peach and drink responsibly!
