The Vivo French Fry Cutter is the first of our coming french fry cutter reviews. The Vivo is a commercial grade french fry cutter, which is great when cooking for a large family, cutting a lot of vegetables or whenever you need to do some quick veggie cutting.

This is the Vivo French Fry Cutter, a tool designed for a speed-cut of whole potatoes into French fries. This is a “push-through” technology where the entire vegetable is set against a sharp edged cast of rectangles. Once the potato (you can put other vegetables of similar textures in the cutter) is pushed through, perfect rectangular prisms come out, creating some of the best shaped French fried potatoes, perfect for frying or baking. The result is an evenly crisp, golden brown French fry with crispy edges, all thanks to the sharp edges of the blades that shaped them.

The Vivo is made of cast iron, and is supported by a steel rod. This makes the product safer, sturdier, and more secure to use. The thickness of the product is responsible for its strong hold, which makes cutting quite easy and effortless. It adds to the leverage of the gadget and adds more power to it. It has suction cup feet to keep it steady, so there is no way the machine will flip or turn while trying to cut vegetables. This makes it not only a useful product but also a very convenient one for the whole family to use. The suction cups are removable, by the way, so you do not need to commit the cutter to your counter for long periods of time.

The sharp edge of the blade of the Vivo is a very uniform ½ inch long. This is what enables the Vivo to chop thick vegetables, from zucchini to carrots, to sweet potatoes, to cucumbers, with little effort.

There is some assembly required with the Vivo. Also, chopping is not the only job it can do. There are side blades that also cut smaller vegetables in thinner and smaller cuts for cooking soups, for deep frying, or for dipping.

So how does it work??

Simply place your potato (or other vegetable) on the guide, pull the handle and voila; you have fries! We used it to slice 10 potatoes (a mix of sweet and white potatoes) for a family gathering. All of the potatoes were sliced within 5 minutes; so awesome!

What are the pros of this product?

My favorite part about the Vivo is that it is strong and durable. It does not feel like a fun gadget. In fact, when compared to similar products that are made with plastic or rubber, it is incredible to see the difference in performance between that, and a professional quality-made Vivo.

I also like the way that it cuts through potatoes. While Paleo is not potato-based, sweet potatoes can be a big part of the eating plan. Sweet potato fries have never been easier to make. I especially love the shape of these French fries. They are perfectly squared and cook evenly in olive oil or baked in the oven.

Another good thing about the Vivo is that, for less than $60, you get a professional quality product that looks quite smart and attractive in the kitchen. It is heavy, mind you. It is 14″ long by 10.5″ wide. It weighs around 15 pounds. Now, this is also indicative of a product with good stability. This is imperative for any cutting device.

What are the cons?

This wouldn’t be an honest french fry cutter review if I didn’t mention any cons. Honestly, the only thing I can think of, as far as issues with this product, is that some people may not like its size, weight, or the slight assembly of some of the blades. Then again, these features come with the territory when it comes to culinary arts and cuisine. You need products that are long-lasting, safe, and durable. They do tend to weigh more and take more space, but still the Vivo is amazingly compact for what it is.
