He owned nothing, but he could not have been richer.
Our Hospice Spotlight Volunteer’s Reflections are shared monthly. Reflections are stories of connection and meaning, presented in the volunteer’s own words. Here is one of Fred Woerner’s Reflections.
“Sometimes I draw strength from how a patient handles death. One man in particular stands out to me. He was in his mid eighties, never able to read and write, but he did have a self-cultivated inner beauty in the form of a positive and respectful attitude toward all. He owned nothing but a blanket and a few items of clothing, yet he could not have been richer in terms of his capacity to love and think of others. His life seemed somewhat tragic from the outside looking in, but he had the ability to see beyond these limitations.”
