Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday (18) ordered to remand until May 31, four persons including two preachers, who had delivered speeches to the students of the Puttalam Al-Zuhariya Madrasa School in Puttalam before the Easter Sunday attack in 2019 promoting war.
The Magistrate ordered that the summary of evidence should be presented the following day regarding the four suspects who were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department and presented to court. Accordingly, the preachers named Anas Anwar, Mohammad Jusail Abdul Hamid Jaber were remanded. The two other persons Mohammad Abubakar Siddique and Rauttar Neina Asanath Marakkar had been present at the place at the time.
The Magistrate also ordered the Criminal Investigation Department to carry out investigations so that the people of the country do not have doubts about the judiciary. The magistrate asked them not to present blank paper and ask for orders.
The magistrate also informed that he will consider the summation of evidence in the coming days and make an appropriate order regarding the suspects.
The Criminal Investigation Department said they had verified the statements of the students who studied in that Madrasa school who said that these suspects had given a war mentality to the students by presenting world war history reports including the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in US and the Palestine war.
The Criminal Investigation Department apologized before the court for being unable to present those facts.
