Four homeless men were rescued from Houston "prison camp" on Friday, living in what was described as "deplorable conditions" and it is suspected the captor had been cashing in their Social Security checks. One of the men is believed to be a veteran.
Police are quoted as saying at least one of the four had been held for up to ten years. The men were held in a room with no toilet and only one chair. A concerned neighbor called 911 which is how the police found the men.
The men were malnourished and "almost invalids, according to Sgt. Steven Murdock, who is the one that described the room they were held in as a "dungeon," and other reports quote police as calling it a "prison camp."
The men ranged from age 79, 74, about 65 and 54 and had been fed scraps of food to live off of, while being held captive.They were taken to Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital.
The man arrested and charged with two counts of injury to the elderly is 31 year old Walter Renard Jones.
Police are investigating whether four women found in the home, three of which had mental disabilities, were also being held against their will. At the moment they are being called witnesses.
