Former Minister Athauda Seneviratne passed away in Colombo yesterday morning (31).
He was a father of five and was 90 years. He was elected to Parliament from Ruwanwella in 1970, contesting under the Samagi Peramuna government representing the Lanka Sama Samaja Party.
He was not elected to Parliament in the 1977 election and later served as a Member of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council, Leader of the Opposition. He later left the LSSP and joined the SLFP in 1999.
He was re-elected to Parliament in 1989 and later held several ministerial and deputy ministerial posts in the governments of Presidents Chandrika Bandaranaike and Mahinda Rajapaksa.
He retired from politics in 2015.
