Wanathavilluwa Police said that the body of seventy-two-year-old Peter Hapuarachchi, the former Deputy Chairman of the Katana Pradeshiya Sabha, was found dead yesterday (28) in the guard house of his coconut plantation in the Vanathavilluwa in Puttalam. Hapuarachchi, a resident of Kochchikade, Negombo, had gone to his coconut estate inVanathavilluwa yesterday morning to pluck coconuts. Police said that a part of the stock of coconuts that had been plucked had been sold to a coconut dealer and the said coconut dealer had come to the estate yesterday to take the remaining coconuts.Since Hapuarachchi was not to be seen,he had found the body tied up and in the guard room and he reported it to the police.
Police also stated that the man who was the watcher on the coconut estate and his wife are missing after the murder of Peter Hapuarachchi.
It is said that the coconut dealer had told the police that the husband and wife had been in the guardhouse when he had come to pick up the coconuts, previously.
