For GLAAD's Spirit Day, Melissa Harris-Perry on Marcel Neergaard, 11-Year-Old Fighting School Bullying
Posted on the 17 October 2013 by William Lindsey @wdlindsyVisit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy
Today is GLAAD's Spirit Day. To educate the public about the very serious problem of bullying of LGBTI young people, and to create wide coalitions in support of initiatives to stop such bullying, GLAAD is encouraging people to "go purple" today in support of Spirit Day.
My contribution to this important initiative: I want to point readers to Melissa Harris-Perry's discussion of the work of 11-year-old Marcel Neergaard to combat anti-gay bullying in schools. Harris-Perry has named Marcel "Foot Soldier of the Week" for his efforts to alert people to the dangers of school bullying. I discussed Marcel's testimony about these issues this past June.
