MoonSwatch is highly sought after with many unable to get their hands on it. Barely a year after its launch, a For Exhibition Purposes Only (FEPO) watch fan club is using NFT to bridge that gap.
NFT creators have emerged from all spheres of life with several creative projects. The For Exhibition Purposes Only (FEPO) watch fan club may be the best example of this.
A user acquired the “Mission to the Moon” version of the Moonwatch, which looks like the original Omega Speedmaster, and sent it into space.
The watch went as high as 33,560 meters, close enough to the Karman line, which marks the 100,000-meter line between Earth’s atmosphere and space. The camera attached to the watch was also able to see the curvature of Earth and the darkness of space beyond.
The pictures taken by the camera sent with Moonwatch filmed the clock’s journey back to Earth. Then, this movie was cut into 960 five-second pieces and turned into NFTs (non-fungible tokens).
These NFTs can now be bought for 0.03 ETH (£32.54 at the time of writing), which gets you a random five-second video clip and, more importantly, the clip itself. The clip is also a raffle ticket which gives its holder a chance to win the moonwatch.
The winner of the raffle will get the Moonwatch, a bright orange watch strap made by Molequin. FEPO will pick the winner at random on January 31. Video clips bought with NFTs can be sold, traded, or given as gifts, just like other NFTs. Organizers say that the deadline could be moved back if all 960 places are taken by January 31.
The collective says that 20% of all money made from the raffle will be given to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. FEPO recommends MetaMask as a digital wallet that can be used to buy and store NFTs.
All of this is called FEPO 001, and the group says it will come back for FEPO 002 “with a little luck and if the community wants us to.”
