Ren MacCormack moves to a small town where public dancing and playing loud music have been banned. Obviously coming from Boston he does not understand the small town mentally behind all of this and vows to change things.
The reason for the banning came after five teenagers died in a car crash after a night out and the music/dancing along with alcohol was blamed for it all. Causing the local councilmen and Reverend Shaw to take action and all the teenagers ended up punished so that type of thing would not happen again.
I found this film to be much more fun than I expected, it’s easy to watch and you don’t have to concentrate too much to follow along the story. It’s about growing up and standing up for what you believe in, even when people are totally against you. We have the songs we remember and know from the first film but have to wait for the very end to hear the title track of the same name.
The performances are strong enough, this film was more of an update to the times rather than being a full on remake. But I guess those types of things are very debatable in films now with the time between original and remake getting closer together but this was a redo of an 80′s classic.
I really did enjoy it more than I expected, I didn’t see this film at the cinema missed it on its release and I don’t particularly think I was too bothered at the time but caught it when it premiered on Sky Movies and pleased I gave it a chance and watched it. But you’re not really missing out if you don’t see this film and have seen the original.
