A week in pictures 7th July
This weather is gorgeous isn't it, but I'm getting to the stage where a downpour at night would be ideal for a full night's sleep! This week in pictures is another busy one. Not the best temperature for travelling around, however, in order to do my doings I had to suffer the sun.
I survived the Virgin Train down to London despite there being tea or coffee available on board. Thankfully I made sure to nip into Gordon Street Coffee for a hot drink beforehand! On arrival in London, I found respite at the Allsop Arms with a large Tanqueray Seville orange gin.
I'm quite enjoying the Seville orange Tanqueray, as we got a bottle from a friend for our wedding. Suitably refreshed it was time to find my digs for the next few days. I'd picked the easyHotel London Paddington as it was easy for transport and cheap. Then I saw why it was so cheap...
My room was basically just a big cupboard, big enough for a double bed and no more. It suited me but I could see a few fights if Mr Foodie was here too!
Refreshed after a night sprawling and air con 😍 I made my way to Dishoom to have a bite to eat with some fellow Scottish media and Lidl PR.
Good chai and we shared a bundle of dishes which was also delish! 😍
It was soon time for our Christmas event, yup you read correctly, Christmas. 🎄
It was Christmas in July with Lidl to see what they are planning to sell this coming festive period.
There was everything from flower arrangements to new cheeses and hams to whisky and a very interesting looking bone marrow pie!
The rum stollen bites were also a fave of mine, don't tell anyone I had a couple of them (Just to make sure I was right in enjoying them!).
A sip (or three!) of Christmas Cocktails from Lidl - which would also be perfect for the weather just now.
And then another press event beckoned, this time the Autumn Winter collection for Oliver Bonas. I ❤ Oliver Bonas so the heat and sun was battled again to reach their venue.
Things are never dull at Oliver Bonas and this autumn is no different. Mix and match homewares, bright fabrics and the iconic Oliver Bonas metals.
Poor Mr Foodie is in for some serious shopping duties soon!
All that sun and photography meant a relaxed night ahead for me. 😴
Next morning, refreshed, I had some time for visiting the Alexander Fleming Laboratory at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington. This is where Sir Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin. An interesting dinky Museum, not one for small kids though as it's a traditional non-interactive Museum.
After a bit of education, it was time for steak judging at the World Steak Challenge. Another hard task in the sun!
Full of steak and sun, it was another quiet end to the day for me.
Next morning it was my last few hours in that there London and a long train journey ahead so sustenance was needed. A stone's throw from Euston Railway Station is Speedy's Sandwich bar & Cafe. This is famous for BBC's Sherlock which stars Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch.
I couldn't have a trip to a proper greasy spoon cafe without a breakfast. This would surely keep me going for the journey. 🍽
A there was just time for a quick visit to the Euston Tap for a quick half and then I was on my way home!
Thursday was a busy day with Mr Foodie visiting Borough Restaurant in Edinburgh for their soft launch. He says that's we'll be visiting soon as it was very nice.
And Old Father Foodie was visiting 111 by Nico to find out all about the new TRUST 111 by Nico Menu. It looks delicious and Old Father Foodie was a happy man. He's a huge Nico Simeone fan and was happy to report that the standard was just as expected. 👍
Friday was recovery day, or let's get that sniffle into a proper chest you cough, meh! 😒
However, on Saturday we were on it with a visit to the Peruana Ceviche pop-up at Wilson's Catch of the Day fishmongers in Anderston.
Fresh fish and zingy flavours, just what's needed in this sunny weather. Yum!
Then we wandered along the road to a brand new opening MAYZE on Argyle Street, which is a vegan-friendly sandwich/cake/coffee shop and brunch venue. Try their French Toast! 😍Here's hoping next weekend isn't as busy as I don't know if I can handle this heat much longer (especially without a pool nearby!)
Take care!
