Food Review: Loks Bar & Kitchen, 16 Newlandsfield Rd, Glasgow G43 2XU

By Emma @glasgowfoodie

Loks Bar and Kitchen is located in the old Pollok Juniors Social Club ground at Newlandsfield, just along from Morrisons and just off Kilmarnock Road in the Newlands / Audlhouse area.

We’ve been watching Loks Bar & Kitchen come to life, seeing the huge amount of work that has went into it, transforming it from stale social club to craft beer restaurant with a real fire.

Mrs Foodie and Mr C went along for a bit of lunch and a quick nosey.  We were greeted as soon as we entered by a friendly member of staff who even offered us a quick tour.  Always up for a snoop, we said yes.  Mrs Foodie had never been in before but Mr C had and he was very impressed with the conversion.

After  a peek at the bar and function room, it was time for food!

Loks Bar & Kitchen Light Bites Menu

We decided on something from the light bites menu, Mrs Foodie went for  the Hake and Mr C for the steak ciabatta.

Whilst waiting we had an wee look about the restaurant.

Cosy booth

We nabbed ourselves one of the booths – there’s a good array of seating for different groupings being it couples, pals or for a working lunch.

Looking towards new glazed area

The glazed area lets in a good amount of light.

Had to wait until the lunch time rush disappeared for a photo

We didn’t have long to wait for our meals.

First off Hake with mash and tomato salsa, £6.25

Hake and mash

Buttery and smooth mash, Mrs Foodie is a big grinch with regards to mash, being brought up in a Scottish home of lumpy mash – this was delicious.  The hake was moist, tender and peeled away in bite sized chunks.  Mrs Foodie liked the salsa addition, but a wee bit too much balsamic.

If we were impressed by the hake, we truly loved the steak ciabatta at £6.75.

Impressive steak sandwich

A good amount of meat chargrilled to our order with sweet caramelised onions.  We didn’t need the chips that we had ordered – one to remember for next time. Now Mr C can talk the hind legs off a donkey but this dish kept him quiet!

We were too full for pudding, we were both eyeing up the Tipsy Laird, but that’s the perfect excuse to come back…

With a coffee to finish, two soft drinks and lunch coming in at £20.75, we were impressed.
