Bubbles and Brunch at Hutchesons, Glasgow
Inside the historic old Hutchesons Hospital located on Ingram Street in the Merchant City is Hutchesons. Lovingly restored by the Rusk Group and the National Trust for Scotland, Hutchesons is an impressive venue.
I met up with Julie from @glasgowly for a much-needed catch up and some girlie time, so we headed in for some bubbles and brunch, and after drooling at the menu online, we were eager and starving.

This was Julie’s first visit to Hutchesons, so we had a peek about to admire the decor. They’ve done an impressive job here, glistening but not gaudy. The brasserie is calm and quiet, not rushed at all.

Even though we’d been looking at the menu all week, there was still a discussion on what to pick. Everything sounded good – avocado and poached egg on toast was a bit different or how about some pancakes for a change? We made our order and settled down with orange juice and Prosecco.

Warmed croissants with maple butter and preserves – fluffy and crisp and they didn’t disintegrate in your hand when cutting! Maple butter, jam or both. Our only gripe was three croissants for two people, a fight pending there!
Smoked salmon with creamy hollandaise sauce on a chewy and warm English muffin. I’m very picky (generally a grinch says Mr Foodie) about my Eggs Benedict so this Egg Royal had to be good. Thankfully it was!
The French toast sounded a sure pick, Ayrshire bacon with melted mozzarella served with a side of Canadian maple syrup. Crisp outside with gooey inside. Good slice of bread and crispy bacon, delicious.
This idea is great and is running daily throughout December, ideal for that catch up before shopping or if you just don’t fancy a proper lunch and want to treat yourselves to something delish.
At £40 a couple it isn’t cheap, but you do get orange juice, croissants, two well-made dishes and a bottle of Prosecco.
We loved our visit and had to pull ourselves away from our booth once we’d finished. Maybe next time we will just move to 158 Bar downstairs for cocktails (we recommend the Parma Violet mmmm)
Many thanks to Hutchesons for the invitation, Fred sez his mom is honest with her review.
