Exterior of Gusto and Relish, Glasgow
One of the pioneers of the Southside café scene is Gusto & Relish, an airy Scandi-décor place with great sandwiches and a delicious array of treats on display with combinations such as stem ginger and blueberry cream cake. While not quite a deli there are items like Corrie Mains Eggs and Suki Tea for taking home.
A Saturday wander needed food replenishment and after being unable to get a table in Tapa (for the second week in a row!), Gusto and Relish was the logical back-up choice instead.

The place was nearly full so it took a bit of time before our order arrived.

White onion and thyme soup, Gusto and Relish
The soup reminded Mr Foodie of the kind his granny used to make. Heavily scented with thyme, it was a deep bowl and very tasty. NB: The photo above is after a few spoonfuls so it was a very healthy portion size!
Triple Sausage Sandwich, Gusto and Relish
Described as a triple sausage sandwich but we counted four! Excellent comfort food which was needed for a cold day – thick white bread with four fat juicy sausages and a homemade tomato relish. As expected, it was pretty filling.
Triple Sausage Sandwich, Gusto and Relish
The man from Atlantis, Gusto and Relish.
The man from Atlantis consisted of a toasted sandwich with tuna mayo, melted Emmental cheese and red onion. Mr C commended the sandwich on its bread to filling ratio and non-soggy bottom from the tuna mayo. The slaw was creamy and not too cabbagy nor was it all mayonnaise.
Escape from New York, Gusto and Relish.
This was crisp with a toasted outside and chewy bagel inside. Melted Emmental cheese topped with crunchy (not soggy) sliced gherkin, pastrami, grain mustard and rocket. Served with potato salad which had a kick to the mayo. The moist flavoursome pastrami made this a goto dish for Mrs Foodie.
NB: Toilets were not checked on this visit but they are downstairs behind the kitchen area so you may need to mingle with staff to get there.
TL;DR
+ tasty homemade food
+ good selection of sandwich fillings and some deli items
+ staff friendly and helpful
– but service can be slow (though it was quite busy)
