Best all day breakfast Southside?
On our first visit to Greens, we had just sat down when a member of staff came over to ask what we wanted even though we'd only just opened the menu! Good to see staff eager but...give us two minutes! Mrs Foodie fancied Earl Grey tea but the girl had no idea what that was even when It was pointed out to her on the menu. 😐
She asked if we wanted hot or cold milk but I wanted lemon so a saucer full of lemon was delivered. We then waited ten mins...still no food order taken. Another ten minutes passed, they eventually looked over to our "we need food" faces but by this point, we'd given up and decided to eat elsewhere.
So we thought we'd give them a second chance. The sign outside proclaims Greens Coffee House to have the best all day breakfast in the Southside. Let's see about that! This time we were given 5 minutes to read the menu, however, we then waited ages for our drinks - they came with our food but it would've been nice to have the option to have them in advance!
Menu
Food & drinks
Again not perfect as we were brought a cappuccino instead of white coffee, and there was a crack in the milk jug so our server replaced it with a different milk jug with a different crack!
All day breakfast (£4.95)
The butter had been heated so as soon as it was opened it dribbled everywhere...the fried egg was cooked nicely but it would've been good if we were given the choice of how we wanted it cooked (the menu just states 'free range'), the bacon was OK, most of the taste was just salt; the square sausage and potato scone were both OK too. The ingredients are neither the best or poorest quality but it wasn't greasy so they get plus points for that. The black pudding was a good size, quite spicy though tepid.
"French toast" (£4.95)
Possibly the palest French toast ever, undercooked and soggy. With the added maple syrup, it was even soggier. The bacon was salty but OK overall. I ate it as I was getting hangry, not a good experience. The pot of tea was OK, but I made myself another when I returned home.
Best all day breakfast in the Southside? Not by a mile. But it's cheap and generally clean and tidy, with plenty of seating though we changed our first choice of table as there was a cloth sitting there as if someone was as going to clean it. It eventually got moved once we received our meals. It wasn't busy, just another four diners and they had to prompt staff to order more or receive their cake/tea. It's also easy to get there by bus (Stagecoach 5, First 38x etc.) or train (Pollokshaws East).
TL;DR+ Good prices
+ Plenty of seating
- Not the best breakfast in the Southside
- Staff seem a bit distant
