Food for Thought: Tom Ford on Style
"Style for me is something completely different. You can be what we consider in our culture unattractive and have great style. You can have no money and have great style. You can have a lot of money and have great style."
"Style for me is someone who figured out who they are, what works on them, what they feel good in them, and develops that, develops their character, and the outer expression of their character is what is style."
- Tom Ford
After sitting on my DVR for what felt like a lifetime, I finally finished watching Tom Ford: Roots of a Perfectionist - Visionaries: Inside the Creative Mind. This was a documentary on the Own Network that filmed Tom Ford as he prepared for his first eponymous collection debut. It was fascinating to see what goes into creating a collection, and to hear Ford's ideas on fashion, style, filmmaking, and life in general. A must-see - check your local cable operator to see if there will be another viewing of this Visionaries: Tom Ford documentary.  A clip from the film:

I find it so inspirational when a fashion "guru" such as Tom Ford admits that style isn't about money or beauty, and that style is something that every person on this planet can achieve. He states that he hates it when people wear his clothing exactly as it was shown on the runway - he wants to see how the woman mixes it up to fit her style. He even talks about his iconic style of the white unbuttoned shirt - he said it came from the fact that ties give him a headache so going tie-less became his personal style. Such a perfect example of creating personal style to fit your specific self and specific life! Great food for thought as we start this week...
