Verdict on Followers
Followers is a horror movie following a group of people desperate to find social media stardom. It follows one who is trying to rebuild his fame in the aftermath of the latest event that disgraced him. He will join forces with his other new flatmates to solve the mystery of a ghost in the building.
This is a horror that is trying so hard to capture the desperate need for social media fame. We have seen other movies do this more recently and to a much higher standard. This struggles to get going because the main character already has a big social media following. However, like most influencers they use their situation to gain more popularity by any means necessary. Now, hunting for the ghost side of things is fine, it does everything you expect. However, nothing feels scary and it is more about trying to throw twists into the story, over moving the story along.
This ends up being a movie that is more about social media fame than the ghost story we take on. However, the core side to the ghost story is easily the most interesting part of the movie. As it ends up giving us a twisted idea.
Final Thoughts –Followers is a horror that lacks scares despite having a clever idea buried in the story.
