Good news to those pregnant women out there who are so excited to let their children grow up to be not just physically healthy but also excellent to learn language! There has been a recent update that folic acid is not just essential for baby’s brain general development but it also reduces risks of sever language delay, an article written by Science Daily.
This study was supported by Christine Roth, M.Sc., Clin.Psy.D., of the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, Oslo, and her colleagues as they conducted a study “to investigate whether maternal use of folic acid supplements was associated with a reduced risk of severe language delay among offspring at age 3 years.” Since 1999, they have recruited pregnant women to be part of the study, and the data collected were included on children born before 2008 whose mothers returned the 3-year follow-up questionnaire by June 16, 2010.
As a result, maternal use of folic acid supplements within the interval from 4 weeks before to 8 weeks after conception was the exposure. The primary outcome measured for the study was children’s language competency at age 3 years as gauged by maternal report on a 6-point ordinal language grammar scale. Children with minimal expressive language (only 1-word or unintelligible utterances) were rated as having severe language delay.”
This was indeed very good news for those parents who really fostered their children inside their wombs and really wanting them to grow and develop into intellectual and healthy beings. Indeed, a person’s development always depends on how the mother takes care of him during pregnancy.
That’s why; if you are currently pregnant now, always and always consider folic acid as one of the most essential supplements you will take to benefit your child inside your womb. Just like the current research details, your child might be excellent in terms of language learning especially when he will soon decide to go to an English language school.
