Fly Me To The Moon (Apple Plus)- Scarlett Johansson Faked The Moon Landing!

Quick Take: I’m one of the few, the proud, the rare people who didn’t hate myself after watching this. It isn’t the best film Apple put out in 2024, but it certainly isn’t the worst. The audio description is also pretty nice, really helping to sell the attempt to make Channing Tatum look more… like he’s intelligent. Scarlett Johansson plays an advertising guru who is recruited by a clandestine government official (Woody Harrelson) to help “sell NASA” so it can keep getting funding, ultimately leading to her needing to maybe fake a moon landing, just in case. Tatum plays her ill-advised love interest, but also the man in charge at NASA. Ray Romano is his number two, and he offers a solid performance here. The problem is that the romantic comedy angle feels like an afterthought, and not only does it feel awkward in the film, but Tatum and Johansson have so little chemistry that I’m positive no one tested them opposite each other. Just because people are pretty doesn’t mean they always go together.

If you remove the romantic comedy aspects, the movie is fun. it is saddled with this incompatible truth it can’t escape, that while Greg Berlanti made some excellent TV shows, and paired some great will-they-or-won’t-they couples over the years, he can’t figure out how to do it in under two hours.
