Floyd Mayweather, the famed boxing champion, has announced the Mayweverse, a new NFT and Metaverse venture aimed at the crypto market.
The nonfungible tokens (NFT) will be emblazoned with Mayweather’s picture and will provide holders with various utilities and rewards based on the item’s rarity. Nothing is known about the project at this moment, save that it will include a boxing facility in the Metaverse.
The debut date and price have yet to be determined, but the concept is generating a lot of buzz. Over 5,000 people have joined the project’s Discord channel.
Given his previous experience with crypto projects, Mayweather’s involvement in this new NFT endeavor is intriguing. Mayweather sponsored Centra Tech, a high-profile cryptocurrency fraud that defrauded investors of more than $25 million in 2018. Mayweather and co-promoter DJ Khaled were each obliged to pay $600,000 and $150,000 for their roles in the project’s marketing by 2019.
Mayweather is now “frantically erasing documentation of his earlier NFT fraud,” according to Coffeezilla, to seem trustworthy for the Mayweverse premiere. Other projects he has championed include Floyd NFT, Bored Bunny, and Bored BAD Bunny.
