Flowers for the mother of the bride

When planning your wedding, your flower order will prove to be one of your main concerns. Not only do you need to plan the flowers for the ceremony and reception but also your bridal bouquet, corsages, boutonnieres, and so on. When choosing flowers for your bridesmaids, take a moment to think of the mother of the bride as well. She is part of the bridal party and it's a wonderful gesture to make her feel part of the celebrations.

There are a number of options to choose from depending on your budget and personal preferences. The first choice you need to make is whether you think mum would like to wear or carry flowers on your big day. Does she prefer to accessorize her outfit or would she prefer a handheld posy?

Flowers can be worn in many ways. Wrist corsages are really popular as are pin on corsages. Remember, the pin on design can be fixed onto her outfit or even onto her purse if you don't want to prick holes in her wedding clothes. You can even buy a new purse to go with mum's outfit as a wedding gift and pin on the flowers on your big day to give it that little something extra! When wearing wrist corsages, they should be fitted to the left wrist. Another great way of wearing flowers is to add them to mum's hair. As your hair stylist for their ideas and tips before consulting with your florist.

As for handheld flower arrangements, you can have your florist create a bouquet similar to those of your bridesmaids. Remember, you don't want them to be exactly the same! You might like to stick to the same colour scheme but use different types of flowers. You might like a more sophisticated approach for mum. Also, this bouquet can be slightly smaller if you plan on using a few more expensive flowers like orchids.

You can also add a jewellery item to the bouquet if you like. Charms are great for this because they are available in so many different shapes and sizes. You can even have the piece of jewellery engraved or personalized just for her. Brooches are great for attaching corsages to mum's outfit and they can act as an accessory as well as a long-lasting memento.

Remember, when shopping for flowers for mum, you should also consider presenting the mother of the groom with the same design. It's best to have your florist make two identical pieces so that both mothers feel just as special and nobody feels left out.
