Oslo’s Flight Mode have announced they have signed to Tiny Engines and that they will be releasing a collection of the band’s trilogy of EPs called ‘The Three Times’ in February. This anthology will include the band’s new EP ‘Tøyen, ‘13‘ (which will be released on Tiny Engines’ sister label, Sound as Language).
The deeply personal ‘Surprised at All’ is the first song to be shared of the new EP. It’s a Braid-esque piece of emo-tinged power pop that looks back at life-changing events – the death and birth of two different loved ones – and how these entrances and exits can shape and change you in so many ways. There’s melodic and twinkly hooks throughout as Sjur Lyseid’s storytelling blends into a climactic burst that reminded us of Mew: ‘Why am I not surprised at all?’; ‘Just keep walking on the spot’.
