Flight 370 Debris Found off Australian Coast?

The Australian Prime Minister is thinking so:

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott told Parliament that searchers may have spotted, via satellite, two objects related to missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 in the Indian Ocean. Australian military aircraft have been sent to the area to investigate.

"New and credible information has come to light," he announced.

Update 12:41 a.m.: John Young from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) announced in his press conference that one of the assessed objects could be as large as 24 meters. The objects identified by the Australian Geospacial Intelligence Organization (AGIO) are "relatively indistinct" and expert analysis says that they are "awash with water, moving up and down out of the surface."

Four aircraft have been diverted to the area. A U.S. Navy Poseidon is on the scene now. An RAAF Hercules aircraft will drop buoys for drift modeling to understand water currents. Weather conditions are moderate and poor visibility in the area has been reported.

We should know today if the debris is from the plane... and perhaps then some of this sort of sensational garbage, from CNN no less, can come to an end:

CNN’s Don Lemon has been entertaining all sorts of theories about the missing Malaysian Airlines Flight 370, including the chance something “supernatural” happened, but on Wednesday night, he actually asked panelists about the possibility a black hole was involved.

Lemon brought this up along with other “conspiracy theories” people have been floating on Twitter, including people noting the eerie parallels to Lost and The Twilight Zone, and wondered, “is it preposterous” to consider a black hole as a possibility?

Mary Schiavo, a former Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Transportation, said, “A small black hole would suck in our entire universe, so we know it’s not that.”

Sigh.
