Five people, who provided boat facilities to illegally transport people to Australia while charging around Rs. 1.5 million per person were arrested by the Police Special Task Force following raids carried out in Kattankudy Muthuraman.

Five (boats) which used to provide transportation facilities have also been seized by the Police along with the suspects.

According to the information received from the Batticaloa Naval Intelligence Unit, the officers of the Police Special Task Force of Valachchenai camp conducted a joint raid with the officers of the Kalavanchikudi camp and took the suspects and property into custody. Police said that during questioning, it was revealed that these suspects had charged an amount of between Rs. 1 million to Rs 1.5 million to illegally transport one person to Australia.

The arrested suspects have been handed over to Kalavanchikudi Police for further investigations. Investigations are underway.
