The Cabiner of Ministers have appointed a 05 member Committee to expedite the customs inspections process under the intruction of President Ranil Wickremesinghe. This decision was taken in response to the significant delays and inefficiencies in the inspectation and investigation procedures of Sri Lanka Customs in relation to goods detained by the customs.

The committee is headed by Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Nimal Sirpiala de Silva. Other committee members are, Minister of Plantation Industries and Minister of Industries Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, , State Minister for Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, State Minister for Investment Promotion Dilum Amunugama and State Minister for Finance Shehan Semasinghe.

Committee is expected to streamline the customs procedure particularly regarding detained goods and to ensure smooth and efficient functioning of Sri Lanka Customs.
