Fit For A Queen

Fit For A Queen This Saturday is Foodie day – Ann’s on the march again
So what did the sovereigns of 26 countries enjoy at their Diamond Jubilee feasts with the Queen at Windsor Castle last weekend?
For lunch they enjoyed tartlet of poached egg with English asparagus, followed by new season Windsor Lamb with braised potatoes, artichokes, peas, carrots, broad beans, cabbage, and a tomato and basil salad.
And for dessert, Kent strawberries and vanilla Charlotte.
Prince Charles hosted a banquet that evening, and his menu started with twice-baked cheese souffle with baby leaf spinach. Main course was line-caught sea bass with samphire and the pudding was rhubarb Eton mess.
I felt quite hungry after reading about this. Not sure basil is a very English herb, even though it appears in every supermarket. But I liked the Queen’s long list of vegetables, and I will be trying Eton mess with rhubarb, which makes a nice sharp contrast with the meringue.
For more thoughts on food, join my foodies’ walk this Saturday 25th May 10.00 am at Monument tube, Fish St. Hill exit.
