French Ambassador to Sri Lanka Jean Francois Pactet met the Minister of Fisheries Douglas Devananda yesterday at the Ministry of Fisheries. At the meeting, discussion was held on the proposed new Fisheries Act. The Minister stated that the new Fisheries Act is prepared in accordance with the International Rules and Regulations with the objective to raise the local Fishing Community to the International Standard. The Minister further discussed about the development activities of the main fisheries harbours of the country, and requested the Ambassador to provide the maximum possible support and the assistance from French Government to empower the local fishing community.
