Fish Mongers, Bondi

By Foodisourreligion @food_religion
Does Ocean Foods have a new competitor? Fair enough it isn't in the same or in fact anywhere near Drummoyne but I think Fish Mongers has the potential to give Ocean Foods a run for its money. It doesn't have as much variety as Ocean Foods but its signature trade mark 'kumera' aka sweet potato crisps are quite funky! I could so do with a bucket of them and their corn right now and I will be one happy chappy.

Grilled marinated calamari with salad and bbq corn - $13

The grilled calamari with the salad is a must! Calamaris are marinated well and the flavours aren't too dominant or salty. The way their barbequed their corn is a job well done; the corn itself is barely burnt but you still get that smokey flavor in every bite and the way it is cut makes it so much easier to eat! So no you won't be getting corn juices all over the sides of your mouth as you munch your way through that corn.
The tuna is seared to a 'medium' level where the inside is still pinkish and the outside is well cooked. You could definitely tell the tuna was fresh and it didn't have the strong fishy taste. The fat hand cut chips were a disappointment though because it was soft and it wasn't fluffy enough on the inside. Could have also done with a bit more seasoning too.
Price wise, it isn't too bad because you are paying for fresh seafood after all and it is only a 5 or so minute walk from Bondi Beach. All we need now is for Mother Nature to show itself off and wala! That's next Saturday all planned out for you.
