First India International Science Festival At IIT Delhi

It might have been most delightful moments for Professor Yash Pal while giving away awards to winners of 3-day Science Film Festival. The film festival that concluded on 7th December began on 5th December. The festival kept visitors engaged with interesting short films made by the young budding science enthusiasts. This is the first India International Science Festival organized in the country. The three-day Science Film Festival was one of the interesting components of IISF.

The iconic scientist and educationist Professor Yash Pal is 89 and the physicist has many laurels in his hat. He is best known for his valuable and substantial work done in the study of cosmic rays. There were seven winners (six short films) in the three-day competition shortlisted from 20 short movies that were part of this contest. In addition to these 20 short movies that were contesting for the final acclamation, there were 24 international and national award-winning films were screened. These 24 films were based on the themes of science, environment, and health. Final award winners are as below:
  1. Prism
  2. Swacch Bharat
  3. Oyster Farming
  4. Swachh Gaon Swasth Gaon
  5. Wake up!
  6. Srashti Se Drashti Tak: Light

The main focus of all film-maker contestants stayed on Swachh Bharat, Science, Society, and Environment. The jury included Prof J S Yadav (Head of the jury), Dr. Deoki Nandan, Prof Manula Mathur, Prof C P Singh, and Mr. Kul Bhushan. Besides the film festival and competition, there was three workshop organized for aspiring filmmakers (one each day). The workshops were conducted by Science Journalist Pallava Bagla, Acedemician Iftekhar Ahmad, and Art Historian Benoy K Behl.
